“If you’re not learning, you’re sleeping.” 

Every crisis is a learning opportunity. Looking for positive outcomes and recognizing the wins were central to an insightful StefTalks Webinar on March 6 when Spencer Gracias, CEO of Stefanini NA/APAC and Stefan Baier, VP Total Talent and Digital Services, shared perspectives on the War For Talent: Now, COVID-19. 

The conversation touched on how employers are navigating through the pandemic and how to balance empathy with business responsibility.

All around the world and throughout the United States, organizations are learning from the new “working from home paradigm” and emerging with new best practices and remote work strategies that are reshaping thoughts on work-life balance and lifestyle choices.

History has taught us that talent acquisition has never been about “supply and demand,” it’s always about quality versus quantity and that hasn’t changed. What does change is the recruitment landscape. COVID-19 brought a tsunami of changes in a short period of time, with U.S. unemployment jumping from 3.5% in February to 20% expected by June. Today’s workers and employers alike are moving into the unknown and uncertainty ahead. To meet this challenge, organizations must:

  • Create new recruiting models and methodologies
  • Redefine or rewrite job descriptions and roles
  • Think differently about job performance, goals and results
  • Explore new ways to engage staffing partners

Another thing that hasn’t changed is that there’s no proverbial “one size fits all” solution. New communication platforms have created a demand for increased transparency that strengthen business partnerships with customers, vendors, and the workforce — and reach deeper levels of understanding to arrive at mutually beneficial solutions.

Digital Transformation is the key to survival.

Embracing technology with an agile mindset, taking calculated risks, and transformation through innovation are the keys to staying strong and healthy in the new business climate. In the midst of layoffs, rate reductions, and cost-cutting measures, organizations are finding technology is a powerful tool to engage remote workers, facilitate change management, cultivate teamwork, and bring people together.

Just as thousands of scientists and medical technologies around the world are collaborating in Coronavirus research and the development of more effective treatments and a vaccine, that same power of partnership, communication, and teamwork can be applied to business endeavors of any size in the worldwide effort to adapt. 

Human resources technology is the “mission control” that provides organizations with dashboard reports for real-time tracking and data-driven decision-making that enables organizations to adapt quickly to change. Being strategic, developing dynamic processes, and action plans are necessary to achieve positive outcomes.

COVID-19 is a reality check on how what matters most to an organization is the people. 

It’s time to look beyond the crisis of COVID-19 and respond to its challenges to business and society. Creating new business models give us an opportunity to reconnect with our humanity and reshape the future of work.
